The Secwepemc Nation is investigating the proposed cull (recently stayed by Supreme Court of BC) of ostriches in Edgewood. The farm is on the border, but within the territory of the SNTC, and is thus within the jurisdiction of the Secwepemc Nation Tribal Council, and therefor subject to SNTC laws.
The official position of the SNTC’s Council is that the cull must not go forward without proof of diseased birds, or proof of infection of the animals. The birds should be tested, and an infection confirmed before the cull may proceed.
The SNTC Council encourages the CFIA to make contact with our organization, and obtain consent from the SNTC Council before any cull takes place.
